SINTEF is a not-for-profit research foundation that earns most of its income from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally. Contract research carried out by SINTEF ranges from basic through applied research to commercialisation of results.
SINTEF’s Department of Sustainable Energy Technology has over 30 years of experience working with low temperature hydrogen technologies. Within fuel cells, the department has been involved in over 25 FCH-JU projects since 2010, including coordination of 6 consecutive projects working from R&D materials development to market implementation.

The University of Freiburg excels in the field of materials research and numerous activities are bundled in the Freiburg Material Research Center (FMF) and the Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies (FIT).
In this context, the Inorganic Functional Materials and Nanomaterials Lab located at the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, the FMF and the FIT, focuses on the development of functional nanomaterials for electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems. Research activities comprise functional materials for fuel cells, electrolyzers, as well as for batteries and supercapacitors. Besides synthesizing such materials with scalable approaches, in-depth multiscale characterization as well as fundamental electrochemical characterization are at the core of the ongoing research activities.

Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) is a research not-for-profit public interest entity result of a history that is more than half a century old. FBK aims to excellence in science and technology with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches and to the applicative dimension. The Center for Sustainable Energy promotes the development of tools and methods for the creation, storage and distribution of environmentally friendly energy solutions. The main areas and objectives of the center are: development of battery, flow and next-generation energy storage technologies, from the development of advanced materials to the engineering and validation of systems; innovative solutions related to the development of the renewable hydrogen supply chain, from production to end uses (FBK is the most awarded center among young researchers in the field of hydrogen in Europe); development of initiatives related to energy networks and a more flexible exploitation of energy from renewable sources (microgrids, distribution networks and transmission networks).
