Newsletter #1 - November 2025
Hydrogen will be a critical pillar in Europe's transition to a climate-neutral future. It's a versatile energy carrier, able to be used across many sectors and link them together. When combined with megawatt-scale fuel cells, hydrogen becomes a powerful solution for the power and heat sectors. Its ability to be stored long-term and transported over great distances makes it highly attractive. Traditionally, fuel cells require high-purity hydrogen, which is costly and not always available. That's why the CLEANER project, supported by the EU's Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, was created. We are developing a fuel cell system that can run on industrial-grade hydrogen, with its typical impurities. After 18 months of R&D, our consortium is already producing important results. This newsletter highlights some of our key findings, many of which are publicly available on our project website. A big thank you to all colleagues for their contributions and the CHJU for their support. Enjoy the read, and please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments.
